The resurgence of interest in analog photography post-pandemic has sparked the creation of the Savannah Center for Photography, a nonprofit dedicated to fostering a community around this art form. This initiative, led by Josh Yates, a photographer with a budding national career, aims to provide resources and education through a community darkroom, workshop space, and rotating gallery exhibitions. Yates' vision for the center is rooted in his experience at a workshop in Yosemite with Alan Ross, where he was inspired to bring back the darkroom to Savannah. He believes that the center will not only cater to photographers of all levels but also serve as a hub for artistic expression and community building. The center's inaugural show, SCP Presents, features works by board members, photographer friends, and acquaintances, with all proceeds donated to the nonprofit. Yates' own photography, which focuses on abandoned spaces, is a testament to his passion for the medium. Despite his busy schedule, he has found time to promote the center and offer classes, with plans for a larger digital lab and alternative process exposure areas in the future.
